DUCK ISLAND (AP) — The body of a missing kayaker was recovered north of Duck Island near the Maine-New Hampshire border in the Isles of Shoals, the Coast Guard said.
A utility boat operator found the body of Matthew Baldi, 26, of Peak’s Island on Saturday, a day after his kayak was found near Portsmouth, N.H., said Petty Officer John McCaw in South Portland.
The Coast Guard launched a search Friday night after occupants of a sailboat reported finding the kayak at 7:10 p.m., McCaw said.
Two hours earlier, a research vessel had located a bag containing clothing, keys and other personal effects.
A Coast Guard cutter and utility boats were joined by the New Hampshire marine patrol and vessels from other agencies during the search Friday night, McCaw said.
