Burns cruises to Late Model victory

UNITY – Winslow’s Jimmy Burns drove his Dow Homes number 7 to a Late Model Sportsman victory Saturday, capping a busy night of stock car racing at Unity Raceway.

Feature races from the July 2 card and the entire slate of regular races were contested.

Burns from start to finish in the race, and was chased by Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs. Dave St. Clair of Libety finished third.

Rain dampens Speedway 95 slate

At Hermon, fans got to see some makeup races before mist and fog enveloped the track at Speedway 95, forcing postponement of most of Saturday’s regular slate.

John Phippen Jr. won a makeup Late Model Sporstman feature early in the evening, holding off Bob Leach of Islesboro. The race had been postponed due to thunderstorms in June. Larry Cole of Deer Isle finished third in the race.

Wright wins fifth at Wiscasset

At Wiscasset, Kenny Wright didn’t let starting in last postion bother him, as he settled into the lead on lap 16 and held off a late challenge from Marty Leblanc of Madison to win the Sportsman Feature Friday night.

Wright started last because he won the feature last week, but the Woolwich racer battled his way to the front to get the win. LeBlanc took second from the pole postion, while John Clark of Gardiner took third.

Santerre 2nd in Busch North race

At Louden, N.H., Cherryfield’s Andy Santerre finished second to Martin Truex of Mayetta, N.J. in Saturday’s Auto Palace/Slick 50 150 in front of more than 40,000 spectators at New Hampshire International Speedway.

Truex drove under leader Kelly Moore of Scarborough on lap 23 of the 150 lap Busch North Series race and held on for the win.

St. Peter wins Sportsman race

At Caribou, Dale St. Peter went ahead at the end to get his first win of the year at Spud Speedway.

The race was wire to wire with St. Peter battling Dana Duncan and Arthur Thomlinson for the victory.
