CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Lightweight boxer Bobby Amsler, who suffered a fifth-round TKO to Lewiston’s Joey Gamache last summer in his final fight, died Saturday after a bout with leukemia. He was 30.

Amsler came into the Gamache bout at the Bangor Auditorium with 17 consecutive victories. After getting pummeled for four-plus rounds by Gamache, the referee stopped the fight.

Amsler, whose pro record was 21-4, was hospitalized following the Gamache bout. After returning to Iowa, he was hospitalized again and was discovered to have leukemia.
