CHINA — A Christian Writers Conference will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, until 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at the China Lake Conference Center. The featured leaders will be the Rev. Clarine Coffin Grenfell, Maine writer, and Dr. Melvin Schoonover, president of the Southern Florida Center for Theological Studies in Miami.
The conference will offer workshops for all ages and “talkback” sessions on various aspects of writing. Grenfell will read her own poetry and stories at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at the Pendleton Building. That program is open to the public, and a freewill offering will be received.
Workshops for youth will be led by William Leonard. Four sessions by Grenfell on writing an autobiography are designed to appeal to adults. Other workshops will be “Use of the Computer in Writing,” Denise Bond; “Writing for a Regular Column,” Betsy Murphy; and “Preparing a Manuscript for Publication,” Schoonover.
The talkback sessions will be coordinated by Dr. Kenneth Parker, director of the conference center. Those interested will be matched with a partner to share feedback on writing in progress.
