Bald eagle presentation scheduled in Sullivan

SULLIVAN — Details and pictures of the resurgence of the bald eagle in Maine and the problems they face, particularly in Hancock County, will be presented before Friends of Taunton Bay at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, at the Sullivan-Sorrento Recreation Center.

The most recent survey by the local conservation group revealed three pairs of bald eagle nests around Taunton Bay, two in Hancock and one in Franklin.

Wildlife biologist Charlie Todd of the state Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife will speak on his efforts to restore the bald eagle and peregrine falcon populations in the state. His background paper on the Taunton Bay area in 1991 aided in its designation as a coastal heritage area.

The meeting is open to the public.
