CARIBOU — The S.W. Collins Co. is celebrating its 150th year of operation as a family lumber business and the Collins family settlement in Caribou.
Brothers Sam and Gregg Collins represent the fifth generation to operate the lumber business started on the banks of the Caribou stream in 1844. The company is the oldest family-owned lumber business in the state, according to Donald F. Collins, retired company president.
From Aug. 15 to 21, the company will sponsor activities from road races and a children’s day to a historical display on the company at the Caribou Historical Society.
