Austin’s patience prevails

HERMON – Jon Austin proved that good things can happen to those who wait when he sat in second place until a chain-reaction crash paved the way to his Late Model Sportsman victory at Speedway 95 Saturday night.

The crash, which occurred when leader John Phippen Jr. unexpectedly shut down on lap 24, eliminated Dave McLaughlin and Roger Richards. Austin, from Otis, led for the final six laps. Gary Smith of Bangor took second and Milford’s Tim Reynolds finished third.

St. Clair takes Unity LMS race

At Unity Raceway, Dave St. Clair of Montville won another Late Model Sportsman feature, topping the field Saturday.

Jimmy Burns of Winslow finished second in the race, while Art Beam of Levant came in third.

Howard increases points lead

At Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Steve Howard of Scarborough led for all 35 laps en route to his second victory of the year in the Super Sportsman feature race.

Howard added to his lead in the divisional points lead with the win. Tim Maloney of Cumberland took second place, while Rob Herrick of Scarborough finished third.

Wilson wins second at Oxford

At Oxford Plains Speedway, Alan Wilson of Hebron posted his second win of the season in the Late Model Sportsman McDonald’s Trophy dash Friday night.

Tim Brackett of Oxford finished second, while Lloyd Poland of West Paris took third.

County rain stops Spud Speedway

At Caribou, Spud Speedway cancelled its entire slate for the second straight week when rains moved into the area Sunday.
