ORONO — Brent Littlefield, State House candidate in District 123 on the northeast side of Orono, recently requested that the Maine Legislature provide more jobs for Maine’s college graduates.
Littlefield cited increasing demands from Maine businesses for a better economy, and noted that with more jobs, Maine’s trained work force would not leave the state.
Littlefield, former student body president from the University of Maine, said that Maine students receive an excellent education at UM and then take that education elsewhere, resulting in a “brain drain” from the state.
“Because of the anti-business attitude from the Maine state Legislature, our state’s small businesses are not able to hire students graduating from our higher level institutions,” Littlefield said. “Our legislators need to realize the implications of the regulations they set and ensure that the processes with which they implement them are fair and clear so they do not have a negative job effect in Maine.”
