Vikings’ Peterson `keeps’ Bangor off the board

BANGOR – Goalkeeper Sue Peterson stopped nine of 11 shots to recorded the shutout as Caribou defeated Bangor 2-0 in schoolgirl soccer action Thursday at the Union Street Field here.

Chelsea Belanger and Lise Carter each scored goals for the 4-1 Vikings.

For the Rams, playing their season opener, Alison Mankowski had five saves on 22 shots in goal.

Hodgdon 9, Woodland 0

At Hodgdon, Wendy Ivey scored four goals and Amy Quint added two more as Hodgdon pounded Woodland.

For Hodgdon, undefeated at 7-0, Jessica Peabody, Carrie Brown, and Sarah Stewart contributed a goal a piece, and Huhnna White posted two assists.

Gillian Foley stopped 11 out of 23 shots for 0-2 Woodland.

Jody Quint made three saves on three shots in goal for Hodgdon.

Boys soccer

Easton 2, Hodgdon 1

At Easton, Danny Peers scored three minutes into the second overtime to lift Easton past Hodgdon.

Kurt Richardson had a goal earlier for the Bears, now 3-6. Dennis LaTour saved 24 out of 37 shots in goal for Easton.

Joe Reeder scored with an assist from Jeremy White for Hodgdon, 5-3. Goalkeeper Evan Clark recorded 19 saves on 30 shots.

Central Aroostook 3, Southern Aroostook 1

At Dyer Brook, Matt Townsend had a goal and assisted on Randy Libby’s game-winning header to lead Central Aroostook to its seventh win against one loss.

Southern Aroostook is now 0-4.

Ben Allen’s penalty kick accounted for the other Central Aroostook goal and goalie Chad Boyd had four saves on 10 shots. Rick MacDonald had an assist for the winners.

Dan Lilley scored for Southern Aroostook and goalie Mason Wiles had 20 saves on 30 shots.
