STORRS, Conn. – Michelle Gallan scored two goals to key the University of Maine field hockey team to a 3-1 victory over Colgate on Sunday in the consolation game of the Husky Classic here at the University of Connecticut.
The victory evened Maine’s record at 1-1 on the season. The Black Bears lost to Temple 1-0 on Saturday.
In Sunday’s win, Mary Lou Winstel made seven saves while Annie Elkanich had a goal and an assist. Margaret Henrich also had an assist.
For Colgate, 0-2, Andrea Basztura had the goal and ‘keeper Kristin Butler stopped seven shots.
In Saturday’s first-round contest, Temple’s Cherifa Nouri scored off a Crystal Carr assist at 14:27 of the first overtime to win it. Goalkeeper Deb Brown made 13 saves for the winners.
For Maine, Winstel made 18 saves.
