Unbeaten Van Buren defeats Fort Kent

FORT KENT – Second-half goals by Sean Parent and Ryan Beaulieu gave undefeated and untied Van Buren a 2-0 schoolboy soccer win over Fort Kent Tuesday.

Van Buren has now outscored its opponents 37-2 in its seven wins.

Todd Ayotte made four saves on nine shots for his fifth straight shutout.

Corey Thibodeau had five saves on seven shots for 3-3 Fort Kent.

Washburn 6, So. Aroostook 1

At Washburn, Trent Cunningham scored two goals and dished out three assists as the host Beavers evened their record at 5-5.

Mark Garvin had a pair of goals for the winners, while Ryan Doody and Mike Garvin added one each. Jason Sargent also picked up an assist. Jon Maynard and Eric Brown combined to make eight saves on 11 shots.

Jason Porter had the goal for 0-5 Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook. Mason Wiles had seven stops, facing 14 shots.

Central Aroostook 7, Hodgdon 2

At Mars Hill, Randy Libby and Chad Boyd scored three goals each to lead the host Panthers to their ninth win against a single loss.

Rick MacDonald added a goal and two assists, while Matt Townsend set up two goals and Aaron Boyd and Paul Howlett had an assist each. Steve Boyd made 11 saves on 20 shots in goal.

Jeremy White and Roman Karnes scored goals for 5-5 Hodgdon. Tom Joner added an assist. Evan Clark stopped 21 of 36 shots.

Houlton 1, Katahdin 0

At Houlton, Brian Swallow’s goal off a Chris Johnson pass with 11 minutes left in the first half turned out to be the game’s only goal as Jeff Hanscom made 11 saves on 13 shots to post his second shutout of the season.

Houlton is now 5-2 and the Shires have won four straight. Katahdin is 0-2.

Luke Cullins made 14 saves on 23 shots for Katahdin.

Greenville 5, Valley 2

At Greenville, senior right wing Scott Anderson scored four goals and assisted on the other one to pace Greenville past Valley of Bingham.

Ian Morrill had the other goal while Chad Owens and Rance McEachern had assists in the game. Josh Glavine and Jason Taylor combined for five saves on seven shots for the 2-0 winners.

Darrell Pelotte and Mickey Young had the goals for Valley and Dustin Cool had an assist. Dustin Giberson had 27 saves on 47 shots for 0-1 Valley.

Sumner 6, DI-Stonington 1

At East Sullivan, Travis Mercier scored four goals to power host Sumner to a season-opening victory.

Gabe Taylor put in two goals for the Tigers, who received assists from Aaron Billings, Travis Trail, Eric Ford, Brad Frye and Emil Thomann had one assist apiece. Mike Bills have four saves on eight shots.

Steve Sullivan scored for 0-2 Deer Isle-Stonington. Matt Combs had two saves and saw 34 shots.

Camden-Rockport 2, Winslow 1

At Camden, Louis Bailey scored an unassisted goal at the 19:28 mark of the second half to snap a 1-1 tie and give Camden-Rockport its second win in as many games. Winslow is 1-1.

Chris Alyward scored the other Windjammer goal and goalie Justin Hovey made five saves on eight shots.

Mark Gunning scored for Winslow off a Jim Baird pass. Jim McDonald made 17 saves on 27 shots for the Black Raiders.

Foxcroft 2, Penquis 1

At Milo, Julian Campbell scored an unassisted goal at the 15:50 mark of the second half to give Foxcroft Academy the win over host Penquis.

For the 2-0 Ponies, Ben Costa scored unassisted and Andy Hunt saved six of seven shots.

Chris Cowing scored on a Tagg LeDuc assist and Mike Harris made 25 saves on 40 shots for 0-2 Penquis.

Nokomis 2, Hampden 1 (2OT)

At Hampden, Josh Addington scored with 2:22 left in the second overtime to give Nokomis of Newport the win.

Addington set up the Warriors’ first goal with a pass to Jeremy Brooks with 12:27 left in the second half. Jonathan Parker made 14 saves on 22 shots in goal for the 1-0 winners.

Ryan Cowan scored off a Mike Roberts feed for 0-2 Hampden. Aaron Peppard made two saves on four shots.
