Eddington supper helps antique organ repairs

EDDINGTON — Restoration to the East Eddington Community Church “1830s organ” has been as big a job as has raising the money to do the work, which will cost $31,000.

Parishioners have raised $13,500, as of August, and will continue their fund-raising efforts on Saturday, Sept. 10, with a baked bean and blueberry pie supper and auction at Comins Hall on Route 9. The auction will be done by Mike Lufkin of Lakeview Auction and the supper will be put on at 4:30 and 5:15 p.m. by volunteers from the church.

David Wallace of Gorham has been working on restoration and has found a notation of repairs made on the bellows dated March 14, 1844. Wallace estimates that repairs would not likely have been done fewer than 15 years after the organ was built, but the builder’s identity remains a mystery.
