BANGOR – The Terry Fox Run is back after a year’s absence.
Supported by a new sponsor and a new beneficiary, the 12th Terry Fox Run will be held Sunday at 10 a.m. beginning at the Best Western White House Inn in Bangor. The 5-kilometer run, that averaged 460 participants for its first 11 events, will be held to raise funds for cancer research in the local area.
About 100 runners had registered by Friday, according to Ed Rice who ran 50 miles from Mt. Desert Island to Bangor in June to help generate interest in Sunday’s race.
Application forms for the run are available at Bangor-area sporting goods stores and the Best Western White House Inn (Exit 44, I-95). Entry fee is $7 per person with a limit of $20 for a family of three or more members. There will be registration the day of the race from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the White House Inn.
The run was brought back by the Friends of the Terry Fox Run, more than 50 individuals who donated a total of $1,845, and the Best Western White House Inn, that will make up the difference for the cost of the race. Proceeds will go to the breast cancer research project being conducted at Eastern Maine Medical Center.
The Terry Fox Run has raised nearly $30,000 for cancer research in its past 11 runnings. This year awards will go to male and female winners in the following age categories: Open, 10-and-under, 11-14, 15-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60-and-over.
