SCARBOROUGH – Kristen Korzeniewski scored her first collegiate goal as the University of Maine posted a 2-0 women’s soccer victory over Temple of Philadelphia here Sunday.
Korzeniewski scored off a Kerstin Adami assist in the first half, while Jennifer Farina converted on a Rachel Ryan feed in the second half for the 1-1 Black Bears. Allison Snooks made 18 saves on 24 shots to earn the shutout.
Vickie Dilks made eight saves on 12 shots for the 1-2 Owls.
St. Joseph’s 4, UM-Farmington 2
At Farmington, freshman Denise Hudson scored three goals in her first collegiate match as the Monks earned the win in the mutual opener Saturday.
Neile Joler scored the other goal for St. Joseph’s of Standish. Karen Rogers made five saves on eight shots.
Sarah Kenoyer and Heather Richard scored first-half goals for the Beavers, while Melissa Baron made 12 saves.
UM-Presque Isle 6, Husson 0
At Presque Isle, Kelly Picard scored two goals and Diana Belskis and Stori Shaw had a goal and an assist each as the Owls downed the Braves Sunday.
Jen Craig and Lisa Bernard had the other goals for UMPI, while Sarah Roy dished out two assists. Keli Daigle and Aarone McKeen combined to make three saves on three shots in net.
Sherrie Sanna had nine saves on 15 shots for 0-1 Husson of Bangor.
UM-Presque Isle 5, Thomas 0
At Presque Isle, Jen Craig scored two goals and Kelly Picard, Marcie Burr and Sarah Roy scored a goal apiece as the Owls shut out Thomas Saturday.
Keli Daigle made one save on one shot for the winners.
Tee Fecteau made 16 saves on 22 shots for Thomas of Waterville.
Men’s soccer
Rhode Island 1, Maine 0
At Kingston, R.I., Rob Giovanielli’s unassisted first-half goal held up as the game-winner as the University of Rhode Island handed Maine its first loss Saturday.
Anthony Latronica made six saves on nine shots for the 3-0 Rams.
Jeremy Dube made three saves on 13 shots for 2-1 Maine.
MMA 2, Emerson 1
At Castine on Saturday, John Harvey scored off an assist by B.C. Voyou at the 21-minute mark of the second half, lifting host Maine Maritime Academy to victory.
Garrett Lappin scored the other goal for the 2-0 Mariners, with Ben Strunk adding an assist. Mark Thibodeau made six saves on 12 shots.
For 1-1 Emerson College of Boston, Chris Stamas converted off an Alex Schovcherho setup. Joe Johnson came up with seven saves on 23 shots.
Husson splits weekend games
Husson College of Bangor split two weekend games, beating Notre Dame College of Manchester, N.H., 4-0 Saturday and dropping a 2-1 decision to Lyndon State College of Lyndonville, Vt., in Sunday’s action.
On Sunday, Jarod Sumesky and Brian Vamosy had one goal each as Lyndon State improved to 5-0. Rich Owens made eight saves on 13 shots.
Chris Steppe scored off an assist by Adam Heaslewood on a free kick for 1-1 Husson. Guy Guy Mpeye recorded 15 saves on 18 shots.
On Saturday, Heaslewood registered two goals and an assist to spark the Braves. Steppe notched one goal and one assist, while Matt Stelzer scored the other goal.
Dan Nguyen had two assists for Husson, while Steppe and Matt Porter added one each behind Mpeye, who had six saves on 10 shots.
Greg Dest had five saves on 22 shots for 1-1 Notre Dame.
NM Tech 2, CM Tech 1
At Auburn, Glen Cyr headed Bill Thibodeau’s corner kick into the net to give Northern Maine Technical College of Presque Isle the victory in the teams’ mutual opener.
Steve Thibodeau scored on an Art Qualey feed for the other NM Tech goal. John Walker made six saves on 24 shots.
Vern Ladd scored unassisted for Central Maine Tech. Pat Martin made eight saves on 25 shots.
