ELLSWORTH — A children’s parade is a perennial favorite in the annual Autumn Gold Street Fair in downtown Ellsworth on Sept. 17.
Max the Clown returns for his third year of leading the children’s parade and entertaining young and old on Main Street afterwards. The parade is open to all children, their bicycles, wagons, costumes and pets. Assembly for the parade is at 10:45 a.m. Saturday in front of city hall. The parade starts at 11 a.m., and all participants will be served a free lunch of hot dogs afterward.
The sidewalks will be full of vendors with crafts, foods, flowers and surprises. As a special event, the Grand Auditorium is bringing back the return of the 50-cent movie with the showing of the new version of the movie classic “Black Beauty” at noon. All children under 12 will be admitted for 50 cents and others for $1.
The Sweet Adelaides, a female barbershop quartet, will perform in concert at 1 p.m. at city hall. Also at city hall will be an art show sponsored by the Downeast Day Care Providers.
The finale of the day’s events will be a parade of antique automobiles, leaving Maine Coast Mall at 3 p.m. and proceeding from High Street onto Main Street and up State Street.
