Truckers are innocent

I have been reading about Gov. McKernan’s crackdown on trucks and was surprised that he was able to find $350,000 for this purpose. When he was up for election last time he said the state was in good shape financially, but two weeks after his re-election we were $52 million in debt. I don’t hear Olympia Snowe making any comment about being married to the governor in her campaign speeches. Evidently, she doesn’t feel this would be an asset to her election to the Senate.

I feel bad about the children being killed by trucks in southern Maine. However, accidents happen every day and they are not always caused by truckers. A person flew an airplane into the White House and one of the first comments stated was that he is an ex-trucker.

Let’s begin checking motor homes, cars and other modes of transportation for defects and over-hour driving. Not all truckers are bad. The way they have been checking trucks lately you would think all the drivers had just escaped from the Maine State Prison. Gary L. Wilson Littleton
