JONESPORT – Stephen Bean scored three goals and assisted on another while Byron Carver recorded the shutout by making 14 saves on 15 shots as Jonesport-Beals posted a 6-0 schoolboy soccer victory over previously undefeated Calais here Monday.
Jason Mills added two goals for the 6-1 winners while Mike Kenney had a goal and two assists.
For Calais, now 5-1, Matt Raye made 15 saves on 25 shots.
Ashland 9, So. Aroostook 0
At Ashland, Andy Sjogren and Chris Condon each scored three goals, powering the Hornets to their sixth win against three losses.
Tim Tardie, Jared Carney, and Ben Jackson each added a goal for Ashland. Keepers Ron Plante and Tim Ruffrage combined to make four saves, facing five shots.
For Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook, 0-12, goalie Brad Jones made five saves on 40 shots.
Narraguagus 3, Shead 0
At Eastport, Gordon Paul had a goal and an assist to help Narraguagus (3-2-1) shut out winless Shead (0-7).
Peter Joyce and Ryan Leighton also scored for Narraguagus. Camron Grant and Josh Paul recorded assists.
For Shead, goalie Aaron Johnson had 24 saves on 28 shots.
Kegan Beal stopped eight of the nine shots he faced in goal for Narraguagus.
Washington Acad. 7, Lubec 1
At Lubec, Adam Brant had a two goals and an assist, and Dean Jackson added two more goals as Washington Academy (1-5) picked up its first win of the season against Lubec (1-1-4).
Rob Sewers, Ryan Chambers, and Warren Carter also scored for WA. ‘Keeper Jason Ackley made six saves on seven shots.
For Lubec, Mark McCurdy had an unassisted goal. Wade Miller and Daniel Wormell combined for 11 saves on 19 shots in goal.
Woodland 1, Machias 0
At Machias, Mike Dwelley scored 11 minutes into the second half to lift Woodland over Machias.
For Machias, now 3-2-2, goalie Tim Manchester made six saves on the seven shots he faced.
Nate Martell saved all six shot he faced in goal for 4-4 Woodland.
Girls soccer
Calais 4, Woodland 1
At Woodland, Kari Carter and Holli Tapley scored goals 3:15 apart early in the second half to lead Calais to victory.
Carter scored on a Sarah Donovan assist, while Carter set up Tapley’s tally for the 3-3-1 Blue Devils. Kim Johnson and Abby Carter scored unassisted goals, with Kelly Dow making 15 saves on 16 shots.
Kristina Kelley scored the goal for 1-7 Woodland. Gillian Foley came up with 18 saves on 22 shots.
Katahdin 4, Lee 0
At Lee, four unassisted goals from Ginger Dyer, Jodi Dyer, J At Lee, four unassisted goals from Ginger Dyer, Jodi Dyer, Jill Kelley, and Carmen Kelley led Katahdin of Sherman Station to the shutout victory over Lee Academy.
Carrie Jo McNally, Liza Clark, and Leslie Taylor combined to stop five out of the 12 shots they faced in goal for 4-3-1 Katahdin.
For 0-0 Lee, ‘keepers Stephanie Carey, Liane Currier, and Lauren Mallett made 13 saves on 18 shots.
Ashland 4, So. Aroostook 1
At Ashland, Celeste Michaud scored three goals to lead the Ashland Hornets past the Southern Aroostook Warriors of Dyer Brook.
Kara Hay scored a goal and Erin Soucy had three assists for the 6-2-1 Hornets. Kristy Paradis also had an assist. Alicia Michaud made 13 saves on 18 shots.
Misty Roy scored unassisted for the 6-2-2 Warriors. Diana Goodall saved 11 of 17 shots.
Sumner and GSA tie
At Sumner, Mandy Wardwell scored for George Stevens Academy to tie the game at 2-2, where it ended after two overtimes.
Wardwell also had the other goal for GSA of Blue Hill. Betsy Lepper stopped 17 out of the 38 shots she faced for 3-2-1 GSA.
For Sumner, Faun Veno and Cassidy Casey recorded a goal a piece for Sumner, now 0-6-2. Goalie Alyssa Weaver made six saves on 15 shots.
Brewer 1, Hampden 1
At Brewer, two overtimes were not enough for either team as the game ended in a 1-1 deadlock. Kara Tinkham tied the score for Hampden (4-1-2).
For Brewer (2-3-2), Denise Hewes scored off a shot from Suzy Flagg. Heather Hogan saved 14 out of the 19 shots she faced in goal.
Goalkeeper Shilo Marden made 12 saves on 15 shots for Hampden.
Mount View 2, Belfast 0
At Belfast, two unassisted goals by Andrea Cochrane and Mary Art were the difference as 4-2-1 Mount View of Thorndike shut out Belfast.
For Belfast, 1-7, Bridget Maguire had 19 saves on 24 shots in goal.
‘Keeper Leslie Clifford recorded four saves on the six shots she faced for Mount View.
Ellsworth 2, Hermon 0
At Hermon, Kim Beckman and Nicole Sheddeck scored one goal each to spark Ellsworth to victory over Hermon.
Lisa Billings made 10 saves on 12 shots for the 4-5-0 Eagles.
Pam Poland made four saves on seven shots for Hermon, which dropped to 4-4-2.
Nokomis 7, Old Town 0
At Old Town, Kelly Bowman scored two goals and set up another to lead Nokomis of Newport to its first win of the season.
Kate Burgess recorded a goal and an assist for the 1-5-1 Warriors, while Carolyn Kus, Penny Stevens, Liz Silva and Caryn Carnabuse added one goal apiece. Monica Kus made six saves on eights shots.
Brianna Day and Joyce Howe combined to make 14 saves on 21 shots for 2-5-1 Old Town, which was missing several players who were serving a suspension for a violation of the school’s athletic code.
MDI 2, Bucksport 0
At Bucksport, Heather Power and Shelagh Slack both scored to give Mount Desert Island (6-3-1) the victory over Bucksport (3-4-1). Kelly Cain recorded an assist.
For MDI, Jamie Lewis and Lacey Richards combined to make four saves on six shots in goal.
Goalie Karrie Hoke saved 12 out of the 23 shots she faced for Bucksport.
Bucksport won the JV game 4-2.
Orono 4, John Bapst 0
At Orono, Jen Freese scored a pair of goals to lead undefeated Orono (7-0-1) past John Bapst of Bangor (1-5-2).
Molly Holmberg and Angie Upham each had a goal and an assist for Orono. Sue Gardner recorded three saves on five shots.
For John Bapst, ‘keeper Pam Foster made seven saves on 16 shots.
Orono won the JV game 1-0.
Field hockey
PCHS 3, Brewer 0
At Guilford, Kelly Tufts had two goals as host Piscataquis Community shut out Brewer.
Jaime Durant also scored, and Magan Timplet and Kristen Snowden picked up assists for the 4-2 Pirates. Jen Moore made 14 saves on the 17 shots she faced.
For Brewer, now 5-2, goalie Heidi Henderson stopped six out of the 14 shots she faced.
PCHS also won the JV game, 2-0.
Hall-Dale 2, Foxcroft 1
At Farmingdale, Leanne Barry scored one goal and assisted on another to lead Hall-Dale past Foxcroft.
Laurie Rowe also had a goar for the 5-0 host Bulldogs while Heidi Johnson stopped seven of eight shots.
For Foxcroft, now 2-5-1, Kylie Kimball (from Michelle Merrill) scored the goal. Hillary Steinke made five saves on seven shots.
Hermon 1, Old Town 1 (OT)
At Hermon, Summer Kathan scored off an assist from Christy Redman with only 16 seconds remaining in regulation to help the host Hawks earn a 1-1 overtime tie against Old Town.
Erica Brewer made 12 saves on 14 shots for the 1-4-1 Hawks.
Jessica McDonald scored on a Brooke Blackwell setup for 3-3-1 Old Town. Christy Danielson made nine saves on 11 shots.
Hermon won the JV game 3-1.
Orono 2, Nokomis 1 (OT)
At Newport, Jenn Wlodarski scored with a minute left in overtime as undefeated Orono (7-0) edged Nokomis (3-4). Tyra Gettleman had the other goal for Orono.
For Nokomis, Meg Costedio recorded a goal. Goalkeepers Millie MacDonald and Heather Deering combined for 10 saves on the 12 shots they faced.
Brooke Monberg saved eight out of the nine shots she faced in the Orono goal.
Orono won the JV game 2-0.
Oak Hill 1, Belfast 0
At Wales, host Oak Hill handed Belfast its first loss of the season.
Jessica Cosgrove scored off a Jenn Blais assist for 4-0-2 Oak Hill. Goalie Tracy Lemontague saved all nine shots she faced.
For 6-1 Belfast, Staci Smith made eight saves on nine shots.
Belfast won the JV game 1-0.
