Seiring goal drives Brewer to win

Brewer 3, Presque Isle 0

BREWER – Bob Seiring’s first-half goal, a five-yarder off a quick free kick taken by Chris Roeder, turned out to be the game-winner as Brewer improved its record to 7-0-1 with a 3-0 schoolboy soccer win over Presque Isle at Capri Street Field Wednesday.

James Clark headed home a Mike Davis cross 52 seconds into the second half to make it 2-0 and Neil McPherson cemented the win off a Nate Freeman pass with 6:19 remaining.

Jon Thomas made five saves on 13 shots to post his sixth shutout of the season while Matt Casavant made two saves on 12 shots for 5-3-3 Presque Isle.

Narraguagus 5, Lubec 0

At Harrington, Peter Joyce played the first 10 minutes of the shutout as goalkeeper, then came out and scored two goals of his own to lead host Narraguagus to the win. The Knights scored all of their goals in the first half.

Gordon Paul, Ryan Leighton and Josh Paul scored the other goals for the 4-2-1 Knights. Kam Grant and Andrew Whitten added assists, while Joyce and Keegan Beal combined for seven saves on nine shots in net.

Jacob Barrett made 15 saves on 24 shots for 1-5-1 Lubec.

Jonesport-Beals 3, Woodland 2

At Woodland, Jason Mawson scored one goal and assisted on another to lead the Royals to their sixth win against a loss.

Mike Kenney and Nick Look scored the other goals for Jonesport-Beals. Bryon Carver made 13 saves on 21 shots.

Brian Benson and Joe Viselli scored a goal each for the 4-5 Dragons. Jason Manza had an assist. Nate Martell made 12 saves on 16 shots in goal.

PCHS 6, Dexter 2

At Howland, the hosts from Penobscot Valley received a goal and an assist from Matt Menard in improving to 4-5.

Darren Thibodeau, Brad Durost, Rich Lindsay, Malcom Budge and Corey Fleming had the other goals. Fleming and Tim Sereyko combined to make 20 saves on 25 shots.

Magnus Lindblom and Joe Cabral scored the goals for 1-8 Dexter, both off assists from Noah Schattenfeld. Aaron Sargent made 17 saves on 28 shots in net.

Washington Academy 3, Shead 0

At East Machias, Jason Ackley stopped all four shots he faced and Warren Carter scored the game-winner in the first half off a Ryan Priest pass as host Washington Academy improved its record to 2-5. Shead is 0-7.

Adam Grant and Rob Jewers scored in the second half with Sam Bradshaw assisting on the Grant goal.

Andy Murphy made nine saves for Shead of Eastport.

Calais 1, Machias 0

At Calais, Eric MacDonald’s unassisted goal with 3:22 left in the first overtime gave Calais its sixth win against one loss. Matt Raye preserved the win with 13 saves.

Tim Manchester had 13 stops for 3-3-2 Machias.

Schoolgirl soccer Greenville 2, Lee 0

At Greenville, the undefeated Lakers had to wait until 20 minutes remained in the game before fullback Krissi Dyer broke the ice with an unassisted goal. That set up Greenville’s 11th straight victory.

Maren Muzzy netted an insurance goal off a feed from Chrissie Giroux with 4:25 left in the game. The Lakers unloaded 30 shots, and Greenville goalie Sara Ward made seven saves to preserve the shutout.

Liane Currier made 11 stops for Lee, 0-8.

Brewer 2, Presque Isle 1

At Brewer, Denise Hewes scored her second goal of the game with 9:59 left in the second half to give Brewer the win.

Monica Higgins and Jessica Chase assisted on the goals for the 3-3-2 Witches. Heather Hogan made eight saves on 13 shots.

Rachel Underwood scored on a direct kick for 6-4-1 Presque Isle. Jamie Powers had nine stops on 12 shots.

MCI 3, Dexter 2

At Pittsfield, Alicia Orr’s penalty kick with 1:52 remaining, following a handball call, snapped a 2-2 tie and gave unbeaten Maine Central Institute its eighth win against a tie. Dexter is 5-2 with both losses coming at the hands of MCI.

Dexter’s Angie Haven, off a Lynn Hersey pass, and MCI’s Mary Wintel swapped first-half goals before Karen Brown converted an Orr assist early in the second half. Jaime Watson’s penalty kick tied it for Dexter with 19 minutes left.

Jesse Brooks made eight saves on 14 shots for MCI while Kim Breton stopped 11 of 27 shots for Dexter.

MCI also won the JV game 2-0.
