MACHIAS — A bond issue passed by Maine voters in 1988 is now providing improvements to the Performing Arts Center at the University of Maine at Machias.

Designed to meet requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the work will include a fireproof ceiling and sprinkler system; a new sound and lighting system; expanded, handicapped-accessible restrooms; a redecorated lobby and entrance.

The center is the home of the UMM performance art series, Stage Front: The Arts Downeast and the Bad Little Falls Players. Players scheduled for the fall are Fred Garbo, the Red Thunder Native Dance Theater, Bad Little Falls Players “Oliver,” and the annual “Nutcracker” ballet.
