MACHIAS — The Board of Trustees of Porter Memorial Library has hired an architect to plan an addition to the 100-year-old facility on Court Street, and has scheduled a series of public meetings to gather comments from the library’s users.
Results of the architectural survey and drawings of the proposed new construction are on display at the library.
The board will hold two public information meetings to gather ideas on how the library can better provide an effective service capable of meeting the futuristic needs of the area community. The seminars will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, and Thursday, Nov.3.
The Town of Machias appropriated funds that assisted the library in hiring the architectural work. According to Librarian Brenda Layman, the National Trust for Historic Preservation has also shown interest in the library expansion project by making a substantial financial contribution.
