Slots still open for breast, cervical cancer tests

The Penobscot Breast Cancer Coalition is having a hard time finding women who want to receive free screenings for breast and cervical cancer.

The services will be offered during the week of Nov. 14-18 in Bangor and Dover-Foxcroft.

Ten of the mammographies will be provided at Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft. In Bangor, 33 mammographies will be given at each of three sites: Acadia Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging, the St. Joseph Hospital and Eastern Maine Medical Center.

The Bangor-Brewer YWCA will provide health education at each site, while Penquis Health Services will give clinical breast exams and Pap smears. The program is supported by a $75,000 grant from the YWCA of the U.S.A. and the Avon Worldwide Fund for Women’s Health.

Advance registration is required. For more information, call the Bangor-Brewer YWCA at 941-2808.
