Once again, the Bangor Daily News has demonstrated its penchant to misstate my position on a very important issue. Your editorial on Oct. 27 completely misrepresents my position on the location of the chancellor’s office in Bangor.
When the proposal to move the office from Bangor to Augusta was made in 1986, I informed the chancellor that I was opposed to the move, as I believed then as I do now, that the office should remain in Bangor where it has been since the creation of the University of Maine System. Ironically, I opposed the move for many of the reasons outlined in your editorial. As you well know, I have been a strong supporter of the university system, and my commitment to proper funding of higher education cannot be questioned.
I regret that you did not extend the most fundamental courtesy of contacting me on this issue before writing your inaccurate editorial. Joseph E. Brennan Candidate for governor Portland
