ROCKPORT — Parker S. Laite Sr. is the Rockport-Camden-Lincolnville Chamber of Commerce’s 1994 Townsperson of the Year.
Laite, of Camden is the 21st person to receive the award, which was presented Thursday at the Chamber’s annual dinner.
A former Camden selectman and a current member of the town Planning Board, Laite was cited for his years of public service in education, health care and many other areas.
Laite, a building contractor, was recognized for his participation in forming SAD 28, the building of Rockport Elementary School, and the renovation of the Knowlton Street campus. He was chairman of the Penobscot Bay Medical Center Building Committee and has been a trustee of the hospital, the Camden Health Care Center and the public library.
As selectman from 1964 to 1973, Laite worked on Camden’s first zoning laws and served on the Charter, Land-Use and Comprehensive Plan committees.
