The Native American Project of the Episcopal Diocese of Maine has, for the second time, attempted to emotionalize and characterize the fate of the Penobscot Indians as an “environmental and racial issue.” Their recent diatribe, appearing in your newspaper on Nov. 4, is much like their first expose of misinformation and wrong facts.

We do not know where they are getting their information but they certainly have not made any attempt to contact us regarding Basin Mills, fishing or our relationship with the Penobscots. We remain ready to meet with them any time or any place. Any individual or group is entitled to their opinion and free to promote their respective position because that is the foundation of our democracy. However, one should expect, at the very least, a church-based group would take the time to contact all sides, getting accurate facts, before they emotionalize, sensationalize, and use misinformation to attack Bangor Hydro.

I know the Penobscot Nation also shares our belief that any public writings be based on accurate information and I believe they would join me in our concern about the inaccurate rumblings of the Episcopal Diocese of Maine.
