Bowden, Gobel key as Bucks hold off Minutemen

BUCKSPORT – Nathan Bowden poured in 30 points and Greg Gobel posted 28 more as the Bucksport Golden Bucks held off a late charge by the Stearns Minutemen for an 84-82 schoolboy basketball victory Friday night.

David Winchester had 14 assists for the Bucks, and Gobel had 10 rebounds.

Ryan Reeves scored 12 of his 22 points to lead a Stearns comeback in the fourth quarter which trimmed the Bucks’ 18-point lead. Pat Carson added 16 points and Jason Cyr 13.

At East Corinth, Josh Newcomb hit two foul shots with 29 seconds left to snap a 62-62 tie and the Red Devils held on for the come-from-behind victory.

Newcomb finished with 14 points, including the basket that tied the game with 49 seconds remaining. John Miller added 14 points and Errol Hanson scored 10 for Central, which trailed by six early in the fourth quarter.

For Schenck of East Millinocket, Tom Jamo led with 24 points. Greg Currier added 12 points and 16 rebounds.
