Balanced MDI Trojans beat arch-rival Eagles

MOUNT DESERT – The Mount Desert Island Trojans got 16 points from Jason Ashur en route to an 81-55 schoolboy basketball victory over Ellsworth here Saturday.

Garric Worcerster poured in 15, Matt Ketchen tossed in 14 and Rob Gilbert added 13 points for the winners.

For Ellsworth, Mike Newman scored 15, Aaron Brown tossed in 14 and Mark Hellum had 10 points.

At Greenville Friday night, Brad Durost scored 19 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out five assists to help the Penobscot Valley Howlers snap their 28-game losing streak.

The Howlers had lost their first seven games this season, 18 last season and their last three of the 1992-93 campaign.

Jeremy Sweet added 19 points for the winners of Howland and snatched 18 rebounds. Cory Fleming chipped in with 13 points.

Scott Anderson paced Greenville with 16 points, Jeremy Philbrick added 11 and Mike Burgess put in 10.
