BANGOR – The Bangor Rams survived the slowdown tactics of the Cony Rams to notch a 24-12 schoolboy basketball win Saturday at Red Barry Gym.

Bangor trailed 3-2 after one quarter and 5-4 at the half before shutting out Cony in the third quarter and moving out to a lead.

Matt Kinney paced Bangor with 12 points.

Aaron Vachon scored five for Cony.

Jason Cook and Mike Raye paced Shead with 14 points apiece, and Cook had seven assists. Tommy Raye scored 11 points and Shirl Penney contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Orono 81, Old Town 67

At Old Town, the host Indians rallied to within five points with 36 seconds left in the game before Orono pulled away in a wild finish.

With Orono holding a 72-67 lead, an Old Town player called a timeout when his team didn’t have any left. The Red Riots proceeded to nail both technical foul shots, score three more points on the ensuing possession, and hold the Indians scoreless the rest of the way. Orono scored two hoops and made five of six free throws in the final 36 seconds.

Aaron Gavett paced Orono with 22 points, while Evan Stinson added 17 and Jason White had 14.

Corey Thibodeau tossed in 23 for Old Town. Joe Mannesto and Jeff Kimball added 12 and 11, respectively.
