The NEWS sampled some of its readers and asked, “Who is going to win the Super Bowl and why?”

Randy Lizotte, Bangor: “San Francisco. I just think they have more strengths. Now that they’ve picked up Deion Sanders, they’ll be pretty good on the defensive end. I just think they have more weapons than San Diego does. I think they’ll be able to put it all together and beat them pretty handily.”

Nate Coffin, Bangor: “Well I might be one of the few, but I think San Diego might win. First of all, they’ve been underdogs all year. Who expected them to be in the Super Bowl? I think Stan Humphries probably is going to have a career game. I just expect big things out of him.”

Mary Turner, Hancock: “I think San Francisco is going win, but I hope San Diego wins because I’m a native San Diegan. I lived there four years and I went to the Chargers when there were only about 500 people at their games. But I think San Francisco has the superior team.”

Guy Toole, Veazie: “I’m going with San Francisco because they’ve got everything. They’ve got the offense, the defense, tradition… I’m with them. Superior in all respects, no question.”

Joe Dolbow, Glenburn: “I believe San Francisco’s going to win because I believe, historically, the NFC is stronger.”

Jeff Fournier, Bangor: “I think the 49ers are going to win. I just think they have a better team and are more prepared for the Super Bowl.”

Karen Lamberton, Hampden: “San Francisco. I just think they’re the better team. They’re more experienced I think, especially in a playoff situation.”

David Dickey, Clinton: “San Francisco. They have a lot better offense and I don’t think San Diego can stay with them as far as scoring. I think it’s going to be a blowout.”
