Not on Snowe’s dime

Once again it seems that the media of Maine and the people of this state have quickly forgotten all the rhetoric we were forced to listen to from the election campaign of (now) Sen. Snowe about how government needed to get in touch with the rest of us and how it seemed like everyone in Washington (except her and her Republican cronies) was selfish and out-of-control money spenders.

Well, shortly after taking the oath of her new office, Sen. Snowe proved that it was all just campaign rhetoric and lies. You see, she voted to exempt her Senate salary (which we pay with our taxes) from any government spending cuts which may be forced due to overspending in other areas.

What does this really mean? Sen. Snowe voted to exempt herself from having her salary, which is part of the government spending she told us so much about, ever cut due to the Senate voting to over spend the budget for other items.

It seems Sen. Snowe wants a balanced budget, just not on her dime. Clark Phinney Bucksport
