Western Maine leaders to meet with Gov. King

FARMINGTON — Western Maine legislators and community leaders have been invited to attend a breakfast Monday, Feb. 27, with Gov. Angus King at the University of Maine at Farmington.

The program is jointly sponsored by the Western Mountains Alliance, the university, Franklin Memorial Hospital, SAD 9, Sugarloaf/USA and Western Maine Community Action. Invitations were issued jointly by Warren Cook, president of Sugarloaf/USA, and Scott Planting, chairman of WMA.

The purpose of the session is to bring together the governor, legislators and community leaders to organize a nonpartisan legislative caucus that will “promote collaborative regional initiatives in education, health care, welfare reform and environmentally sensitive economic development.

The schedule provides for remarks from the governor followed by a panel discussion of the issues and opportunities in western Maine. Panel members include Cook; Theodora Kalikow, president UMF; Fen Fowler, executive director of WMCA and Bob Kimber, regional author.
