MACHIAS — Two Jonesport men, Donald Alley, 26, and Brian McGuire, 21, were named Thursday in a Washington County grand jury indictment charging them with burglary, aggravated criminal mischief and theft at Jonesport-Beals High School, and burglary and theft at a local restaurant and convenience store.
The five-count indictment was handed up to Superior Court Justice Margaret Kravchuk, after Assistant District Attorney Patricia A. Mador presented the state’s evidence to the jury.
Alley and McGuire, who had previously signed confessions that they had burglarized the school and the Win, Place and Show Restaurant and convenience store owned by Arnold and Lorraine Stanhope, were arrested Thursday afternoon and incarcerated in the county jail at Machias. The offenses at the Jonesport school and business occurred Jan. 30.
Each defendant was being held Thursday night on $10,000 bail with two real estate sureties or $5,000 in cash. A special condition of their bail was that they not enter high school property.
The two men are charged with breaking into the school and causing more than $1,000 damage to the building. About $60 was stolen from the school along with a video camera valued at more than $500.
The restaurant was entered by kicking in the front door and cigarettes, beer and snack foods valued at less than $500 was taken.
