WINTERPORT — A long-simmering feud escalated into a shooting incident Sunday afternoon.

Waldo County Deputy Sheriff Matt Tufts said the “altercation” between neighbors on the Hackett Road took place at approximately 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Tufts said a vehicle belonging to one of the participants was damaged by gunshots during the confrontation. The incident apparently ended itself before authorities arrived.

Tufts said it was too premature in the investigation to reveal the identities of the participants. No arrests were made.

“We’re still trying to sort things out,” Tufts said.
