SKOWHEGAN — Open Farm Day in Maine is set for Sunday, July 9, and organizers are looking for host farms.

Last year, more than 120 farms throughout Maine opened their gates to spectators who got a firsthand look at farm life, and at how food and fiber are produced.

Farm enterprises such as beef, dairy, sheep, goats, orchards, vegetables, fruits and trees offer a wide variety to the public.

Host farms are required to open their farms between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday, July 9, and be on hand to answer questions. Some farms also offer special events such as tours, hayrides and demonstrations.

Those interested in serving as farm hosts may contact Nancy Reitze at the Somerset County Soil and Water Conservation District, 474-8324, before Feb. 28.
