BANGOR — Penquis Community Action Program has received a $350,000 grant from the Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families to work with inmates and their families.
The Family Self-Sufficiency Project is a three-year program under the direction of Shannon Bonsey, head of Penquis CAP Family Enrichment Services. The program will be evaluated by a team from the University of Maine’s Margaret Chase Smith Center.
The program is designed to help inmates and their families gain independence from public assistance, and to reduce recidivism through education in areas of budgeting, home buying, resume writing, job interviews, and commun- ity relations.
Individual plans for inmates and families will be developed and case managers will work with clients for the duration of the program.
