WATERVILLE — A limited edition of the script of Academy Award nominee “Nobody’s Fool,” signed by the film’s star Paul Newman, director Robert Benton and the novel’s author, Richard Russo of Waterville, will highlight the list of items up for bid at a March 31 in Waterville.
The auction will benefit the rebuilding of Railroad Square Cinema, which was destroyed by a fire in October 1994. Since the fire, 700 donors and volunteers have raised almost $90,000 toward the $275,000 needed to rebuild the alternative theater.
The items to be featured in the auction are diverse, ranging from gift certificates to antiques, books and arts and crafts. They include everything from massages and music lessons to a canoeing trip in Canada, amphibian flight in Maine and a Great Pond weekend getaway. A large number of paintings, sculptures, ceramics and prints will also be auctioned.
The auction is open to all and will be held in the Dana Dining Hall at Colby College from 7-10 p.m. Friday, March 31, with an opportunity to preview items between 6-7 p.m. The snow date is April 1.
