Patty McCormick of the University of Maine, who is the first Black Bear athlete to compete in the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships, placed 13th in the 5,000-meter run Friday in Indianapolis.

McCormick, a junior from Peru, N.Y., was timed in 17 minutes, 1.85 seconds and finished 1:19 behind winner Jen Rhines of Villanova.
