PEACHAM, Vt. — A Hollywood production company is slated to set up shop in Peacham next month to shoot a movie about a Maine diner.
The six-week shoot is scheduled to begin April 13. The production team is entrenched in St. Johnsbury where officials are assembling a crew, completing the script and finding locations.
The film “c/o Spitfire Grill,” is a low-budget film starring Oscar-winner Ellyn Burstyn and Marcia Gay Harden.
Peacham’s Ha’Penny Store will be converted into the Spitfire Grill of Gilead, Maine.
The film’s producers chose Peacham without knowing that it had served as the backdrop of the American Playhouse film “Ethan Frome,” or was close to the sites where the film “Where the Rivers Flow North” was made.
“We toured 40 towns in Vermont,” said producer Forrest Murray, who produced the 1992 film “Bob Roberts.” “We didn’t find what we wanted near Burlington, so on the second day we came to this area. It took us 10 seconds to decide once we were in Peacham.”
Murray says the makers of “Ethan Frome” spoke well of Peacham and the available support from Kingdom County Productions, which made “Rivers,” enhanced the community’s appeal.
