We are writing in response to the Bangor Daily News article of March 25-26 titled, “Sierra Club blasts GOP.” The article states that the Sierra Club is targeting Congressman Longley in particular and the Republican Party in general for being anti-environmental. They base this indictment on the fact that Jim and the new majority party are putting people first.

We believe that it’s about time someone in government did insist on assessing the impact of bureaucratic burdens that the “tree-huggers” have been successful in imposing on us. They accuse the Republicans of exceeding “Americans’ wishes in carrying out their Contract with American with zeal.” We say that the Republicans are doing exactly what we sent them to Washington to do: get big government off our backs.
