TRENTON — Residents will consider annual town business a month early this year, beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 15, at the elementary school.
With a proposed combined municipal and school budget of $1.383 million for the new fiscal year, the increase is expected to be about one-half mill.
As with several other towns in the Hancock County area, Trenton voters are considering an eventual expansion of the elementary school. On Saturday, residents will decide whether to fund the development of a plan for that expansion, including architectural and engineering fees of about $15,000. Any movement toward construction depends on state funding.
Purchase of a new tanker truck for the Fire Department will be up for voter approval with the proposed purchase to be handled through a five-year loan.
Joining the style of neighboring Lamoine, Trenton may include an administrative assistant on its payroll if the proposal wins town approval. At an annual salary of $25,000, the position would consolidate those of town clerk, treasurer and tax collector.
