BANGOR DAILY NEWS (BANGOR, MAINE

In response to the articles on the logging crews and road damage on Route 69 in Carmel, I agree with town manager Glennis McSorley as it being blown out of proportion. I am one of the landowners and I travel Route 69 every day. I can’t see there was any more damage done to the road by the machinery as was done by the state or town scrapping and digging the ice off the roads that left surface damage in front of the Snowmobile Club this winter.

Also, as for the innocent bystanders caught in the middle (Ray’s Disposal Service), what good is a permit? If you’re over weight, you can still do damage to the road. I agree, the logging trucks didn’t help the condition of the roads any, but the roads were impossible to drive on before they came along.

As far as the noise, they were working right beside my house and the noise didn’t bother me, my family or the next-door neighbor. (They were working right between us.) I can’t believe it was so bad for the other neighbors who were not right beside the work being done other than to have something to bitch about at the local gossip center over coffee in the mornings.

Another question: Since the roads are still posted, where are all the state troopers now who were watching the log crews? I’ve noticed a lot of overweight trucks since the logging crews left, but who cares about them, right?

If you can’t be seen or heard, then it must be all right! Judith L. Stevens Carmel
