Yes, it’s a typo. A reader was concerned over a line in my bicycling article from April 19 which stated, “You do not need a helmet.” I am a serious advocate of bicycle helmets for young and old. As a matter of fact, my article in the March 15 edition of the Bangor Daily News was totally devoted to the importance of helmets.
Just a few days ago, I was asked to coordinate a bike-a-thon in the Bangor area for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. I refused when I learned they do not require participants to wear helmets.
I appreciate the reader’s concern for the safety of bicyclists. I wish more folks shared his sentiment. Bill Mason Bangor
