Some facts about the Maine Turnpike:

The portion south of Portland was completed in 1947; the portion from Portland to Augusta was completed in 1955.

A traffic record was set last year, when more than 41 million vehicles used the toll road, a 5.4 percent increase over the 1993 figure.

The volume during the first quarter of 1995 was 9.3 percent higher than during the same period last year. The 768,529 vehicles using the road during the first quarter of 1995 also set an all-time record.
