PRESQUE ISLE — The chief justice of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court, Daniel E. Wathen, will deliver the commencement address at Northern Maine Technical College on Saturday, May 20.
The ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. for about 250 seniors.
Also addressing the 32nd commencement will be Dwight Clayton, a senior accounting major.
An Easton native, Wathen served as an associate justice from 1981 until 1992 when he was appointed chief justice. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Ricker College in Houlton and graduated from the University of Maine School of Law in 1965.
Wathen is a member of the board of trustees of the National Judicial College, the Advisory Committee on Criminal Rules of the Judicial Conference of the United States. The judge also is a member of the Maine State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the American Judicature Society, and a fellow of the American Bar Foundation and the Maine Bar Foundation.
Clayton was chosen by his classmates to be the senior speaker at the NMTC commencement. He is a member and president of the Alpha Beta Gamma National Honor Business Society and a member of the Student Senate and yearbook staff. Clayton also is a tutor in the learning center.
He was nominated for student of the year and received this year’s achievement award in the accounting program, where he earned a 4.0 grade-point average.
