Truck-driving championships scheduled for May 20

HERMON — There are the best, and then there are all the rest.

Saturday, May 20, will determine just who are the best as the Maine Motor Transport Association sponsors the Professional Truck Driving Championships at Dysart’s Truck Plaza in Hermon. This annual event, very popular among truckers and non-truckers alike, will draw people from throughout Maine.

The championships will be offered in seven vehicle classifications:

Straight truck;

Three-axle (tractor-trailer);

Four-axle (tractor-trailer);

Five-axle (tractor-trailer);

Tank truck (five axles, tractor-trailer);

Flat (five axles, tractor-trailer);

Twin trailers.

The entry fee for the competition is $60 per driver for MMTA members and $70 for non-members. Companies are requested to send no more than two drivers per classification, but this requirement will be waivered if a company wants to enter additional drivers.

The day’s activities will conclude with a banquet at Jeff’s Catering, Hammond Street, Bangor.
