HAMPDEN – Caribou’s Jeremy Dalton fashioned a three-hitter in the second game here Saturday, enabling the Vikings to earn a split of their Class A baseball doubleheader with Hampden Academy.

The Broncos shut out Caribou 5-0 in the first game, then the Vikings won the second game 5-2.

In the second game, Mark Beaulieu’s two-run double led the Vikings. Dalton gave up only two sixth-inning runs to claim the victory.

Matt Gilbert hit an RBI single for Hampden, and Chris Knickerbocker added a double.

In the opener, Dustin Campbell allowed only three hits, striking out six and walking one, while posting the shutout. Campbell singled twice and drove in a run to help his own cause.

For Caribou, Chad Curley doubled.

At Millinocket, Matt MacDonald knocked in three runs on two base hits, and Andy Higgins added a three-run double to spark Ellsworth.

Chris Massengale and Jerry MacDonald each had two singles for the Eagles.

Brian Johnson led Stearns with six RBIs on two homers, including a grand slam in the third. Dave McLaughlin singled twice.

At Guilford, Curtis Graffam singled and doubled for two RBIs to lead undefeated Piscataquis past Schenck of East Millinocket.

Kam Kimball added an RBI on two singles for the Pirates.

Brooks Sturtevant knocked in a run on a single and a homer for Schenck.

Foxcroft sweeps Penquis

At Brownville Junction, the Ponies took two games from the Patriots Saturday, winning 17-1 in the first game before taking the second game 9-4.

Deron Smith was the offensive leader in the first game, ripping a home run and a single (4 RBIs). Russ Sprague also added a double and a single for the winners. Brock Hartford went the distance to pick up the win.

Mike Harris had two singles to pace the Patriots.

In the second game, Smith again homered, driving in three runs for the Ponies. Hartford added two singles and two RBIs for Foxcroft.

Miller Witham ripped a two-run homer and Paul Conlogue had two singles for Penquis.

Bangor Christian sweeps Lakers

At Jackman, the Bangor Christian Patriots swept a doubleheader from host Forest Hills Saturday with an 8-2 win in the first game and an 11-10 decision in the second.

In the first game, Ryan Mick pitched a three-hitter, striking out 12 and walking one, to pace the Patriots to victory. Gabe Perrow led the offense with a two-run homer in the sixth and a single. Chad Simmons added an RBI double.

For the Lakers, Lucas Van Camp doubled.

In the second game, Shannon Eckstein preserved the victory for the Patriots by getting a strikeout and inducing the last batter to fly out with a runner on third in the seventh.

Mark Shaw hit a two-run homer and a double for Bangor Christian. Donnie Martin hit a two-run homer and a single, and Chris Schroeher had a solo home run, double, and single.

Josh Guay, Seth Moore, and Rocky Achey each singled twice for the Tigers.

Brewer sweeps Presque Isle

At Presque Isle, Brewer won 16-8 and 16-2 to sweep a doubleheader from the host Wildcats.

Chris Roeder drove in three runs on two doubles and a home run to lead the Witches in the first game, and Donny Sawyer added three RBIs on a single and a triple.

Tim Underwood singled twice, driving in two runs for Presque Isle, and George Graves knocked in a run on three singles.

In the second game, Dennis Roy allowed two runs on nine hits, striking out five and walking two, to lead the Witches. Roy drove in four runs on a home run and two base hits. Roeder added four RBIs with two singles and a homer.

For the Wildcats, Adam Daigle singled twice (1 RBI) and John Sewall and Colin White added two base hits each.

At Orono, Chris Bagley knocked in five runs on a double and a single, and Tim LePage added five more with three doubles to lift the host Red Riots over George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill.

Evan Stinson doubled and singled three times for four RBIs.

Jon Dorn hit a two run homer in the fifth for GSA, and Tim Pert singled and homered to drive in three runs for the Eagles.

John Bapst wins twice

At Bangor, the Crusaders defeated Sumner 8-2 in the first game, then got by Moun Desert Island 7-3 in a second game.

Five hits and two walks in the fifth inning, including a double from Joel Perry, sparked John Bapst in the first game. Seth Burns singled twice and Perry added another base hit.

Sumner’s Terry Schwartz had two singles.

In the second game, Jeremy Spencer drove in a runs on two hits, and Matt Rickert had two RBIs with two singles and a double to lead the Crusaders.

Jim Mosely knocked in two runs on a base hit for MDI.
