Bulldogs snap J-B streak at 62

MACHIAS – The Machias Bulldogs rallied to score eight runs in the fifth inning and snapped Jonesport-Beals’ 62-game winning streak with a 9-2 softball victory Monday afternoon.

Coach Diane Clark’s Royalettes, the three-time defending Class D state champions, suffered their first loss since June 12, 1991, when Ashland beat Jonesport-Beals in the Eastern Maine Class D title game. The Royalettes have won 100 of their last 106 games since 1988.

Carolyn Luce drilled a two-run double and Jill McCarthy an RBI single Monday in the Bulldogs’ eight-run uprising. McCarthy pitched a five-hitter, striking out five and walking two.

Jodie Wood added an RBI single for Machias and Luce had another double.

Stacey Beal singled twice behind loser Kristi Carver, who gave up five hits and struck out seven, but walked 12. Carver helped her cause with a run-producing single.

Narraguagus 23, WA 11

At East Machias, Connie Look smacked a homer and a single and Lindsay Smith singled and doubled for the Knights. The game was called after five innings because of the 12-run rule.

At Limestone, Oleka Obar singled twice and drove in two runs to help power Limestone to the win.

Kim Chatman went the distance on the mound and drove in two runs with a single. Angie Cannon had a double and two RBIs.

For Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook, Jana Walker doubled twice.

Fort Fairfield 10, Madawaska 6

At Madawaska, Samantha Hayes tripled and singled and Kim McCrea slapped two singles to carry Fort Fairfield to the win.

Sarah Nason added an RBI for Fort Fairfield. Kathy Russell got the pitching win.

For Madawaska, Michele Hebert had a double and two RBIs.

At Washburn, Danielle Wentworth drove in three runs with two doubles, a triple, and a single to lift the Hornets.

Alicia Nason struck out six and added a triple, double, and two singles for Ashland. Jen Carney stroked a three-run triple.

For Washburn, Amy O’Donnell roped an RBI single.

At Fort Kent, Erica Hiscoe scattered four hits and Jen Noonan cracked a double and two singles to drive in a run, pacing the Shiretowners.

Darcy Howe added three singles for Houlton.

For Fort Kent, Beth Doustou had an RBI double. Rachelle Guy also doubled.

At Eastport, Joni Kinney fired a no-hitter, striking out 11, and drove in three runs with a triple, double, and single as host Shead rolled.

Erin Klentzman drove in three runs with a triple and two singles for Shead. Kristy Lingley contributed three singles and Jessica Pulk had a double, single, and two RBIs.

At Van Buren, Kristy Parent pitched a five-hitter and laid down a perfect suicide bunt to bring Michelle St. Pierre home with the winning run for the Crusaders in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Parent ended up with two singles and Lori Morrow doubled.

For Wisdom of St. Agatha, Carrie Chasse had two singles and an RBI.

Dexter 7, Central 6 (8 inn.)

At East Corinth, Beth Moninski hit a two-out single in the top of the eighth inning to drive in Lisa Fogler with the winning run for Dexter.

Lori Keyte smacked a bases-loaded triple in the fifth inning and hit two singles for the Tigers. Tara Golas hit three singles, while Moninski finished with a pair of singles.

Bonnie Wood doubled and singled with an RBI for Central and Kristi Clement singled twice.

Calais 20, Woodland 1

At Calais, the Blue Devils pounded Woodland’s pitching to the tune of 19 hits and 20 runs in just 4 1/2 innings of play for their ninth win in 10 games.

Kelly Dow drove in four runs with a home run and a triple for Calais, Katie MacMannis stroked three singles, and Jessica Crossman hit two singles and two RBIs.

Meredith Carle hit a double for Woodland.

Katahdin 11, Schenck 6

At Sherman Station, Leslie Taylor’s three-run double in the sixth inning sparked host Katahdin past Schenck of East Millinocket.

Taylor also tripled for the winners, who got a triple and a single from Renae Landry. Carrie Jo McNally hit a double and a single and Emily Guptill two singles.

Christina Lyons delivered a home run and two singles for the Wolverines. Kristy Fiske had two doubles and Carrie Lynch a pair of singles.

At Blue Hill, Barbara Haskell socked a two-run triple and the Eagles took advantage of 17 walks to post the win.

Jada Fontaine went the distance on the mound for George Stevens.

For Sumner of East Sullivan, Amy Stevens drove in three runs with a solo homer and a single.

PVHS sweeps Lee

At Lee, the Penobscot Valley Howlers from Howland outslugged the Lee Academy Pandas for 20-15 and 29-13 victories.

In the first game, Keri Magoon had four singles, a triple, and six RBIs to help pace PVHS to the win. Heather Poirier and Lea Sereyko each hit three singles. Ellise Spaulding doubled twice.

Stephanie Thurlow hit four singles, Laura Moody had two singles, a double, and three RBIs, and Shannon Cole had two doubles and two RBIs for Lee.

In the second game, Tina Smith led the Howler assault with two singles, two doubles, and four RBIs. Spaulding tripled, doubled, and singled for six RBIs. Magoon added two singles and a double.

For the Pandas, Melissa Kraft had three singles and two RBIs. Rhonda Russell and Hilary Emery each had two singles and two RBIs.
