BANGOR DAILY NEWS (BANGOR, MAINE

I am pleased to see that the Republicans in the Legislature are holding fast for a reduction in taxes. Over the past 20 years, Maine has developed a reputation of being anti-business because of our Workers’ Compensation rates and gouging the tourists with our sales tax. As a candidate, Angus King had a lot to say about the negative effects of Maine’s high, regressive taxes.

If he has truly left the Democratic Party and has really become an independent, then let Gov. King prove it. He now has an opportunity to demonstrate some leadership and bring Maine back to encouraging industry and welcoming our summer visitors. Wayne C. Gray Rockland
