Former University of Maine hockey player John Tortorella has been named the head coach of the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League. He had been an assistant coach for six years with the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres.

Tortorella played at Maine from 1978-81 and ranks third all-time in career penalty minutes with 218.
