ORONO – Wickes Canines of Bangor-Brewer posted two victories during Sunday’s Eastern Maine Amateur Baseball League action at Mahaney Diamond.
The Canines beat Downeast 6-1 in the first game, then edged Mid-Maine 3-2 in the second contest.
In the opener, Wickes snapped a 1-1 tie with a five-run rally in the fifth inning. Troy Varney had two doubles and an RBI, Scott Hanscom a double and a single (1 RBI) for the winners.
Mark Reed and Roy Peary stroked RBI doubles to back Dana Andrews, who pitched a three-hitter, striking out six and walking three.
Joel Wilson had an RBI single for the Yankees.
In Game 2, Matt Alaimo’s two-run double in the third inning was enough for the Canines to prevail. Eric Murray scattered six hits, striking out six and walking three.
John Novak singled twice and Justin Shaw added a run-scoring single for the winners. Rex Turner paced Mid-Maine with a double and a single, while Justin Vantil had two hits.

Old Town-Orono 4, Molunkus 3
At Orono, Mark Leighton belted a two-run homer and a single as Old Town-Orono won its opener. Gary Sibley and Joel Littlefield combined on a three-hitter for the Double O’s.
Frank Peckham had an RBI single for Molunkus bheind loser Brent Brown.
