ELLSWORTH – The Trenton Acadians scored 10 runs in the sixth inning to beat Calais 18-9 in their American Legion opener at the Ellsworth High field Tuesday.

The Acadians took advantage of six Calais errors in the sixth to score their 10 runs. Robbie Worcester singled twice and drove in a run for the winners, Dan Curtis slammed a two-run double and Nick Grant had an RBI single.

Brian MacArthur doubled, singled and drove in a run for Calais while Joel Viselli and Brian Sherman each singled twice and had an RBI.

At Skowhegan, righthander Nathan Bradley struck out 15 over 6 2/3 innings as the Log Drivers gave first-year Coach Doug McEwen a win in his debut.

Bradley pitched a four-hitter. He walked seven before receiving last-out help from Jerry Veilleux.

Jason Tibbetts had two singles and two RBIs for the winners and Chris Morris belted a two-run double.

Jeremy Bragg had two singles for Penquis and Todd Tufts went one-for-one with three walks.

Old Town-Orono wins two

At Mahaney Diamond in Orono, Ricky Burgess’ two-run double in the fifth lifted Old Town-Orono past Wicks 4-3 in the first game of the club’s Eastern Maine Amateur Baseball League doubleheader.

Old Town-Orono defeated Downeast 5-4 in their second game.

In the first game, Marc Halsted had a pair of doubles, and Mark O’Clair cranked a pair of singles for Wicks.

In the second game, Chris Hashey singled twice, tripled, and drove in a run to pace Old Town-Orono to the victory over Downeast.

Aaron Nauman had a single and an RBI for Downeast.
